Fashion Blogging: A summer trip to the city leads to a man to some shoes

17 Feb

When David Millsaps bought these Diesel shoes in New York this summer, he took a little ribbing: “I got made fun of real bad by my friends for picking them up,” he said. I’m glad he decided to buy them anyway. Millsaps is one of the folks behind the New Raleigh blog. When I first met him last week, I couldn’t stop staring at his shoes. The pointed gray, leather-toed shoes jutting out from his jeans were so unusual. I don’t care what anyone says, there’s something to be said for men who sport stylish shoes.

And is wasn’t just Millsaps shoes that were stylish, his entire business casual look was well done. It’s hard to tell in this picture, but that Forsyth of Canada shirt is a woven combination of pinks and lavender. He said the thicker fabric makes the shirt versatile, allowing him to wear the designer shirts with just jeans or a full suit. The look was pulled together with a blue and red pinstriped navy blazer. The jacket is part of a Yves Saint Laurent suit he found at the Salvation Army.

Yeah David was smooth, I have to try a sports coat & jeans look too. I’m not sure if I’ll be as sharp as David though.

    Good post.

I like his shoes. I wish his jeans were a darker wash. It would make his shirt and shoes just pop! I love the general idea of his outfit.

I don’t like those shoes. Diesel makes a nice pair of shoes, but that color of gray and the point is so… well… 1989 combined with 2002. Doesn’t work.

Candace and I just simultaneously laughed out loud!

Thanks for the mid-day Monday laugh Dwayne!

See, I think it takes a tiny bit of guts to pull off David’s shoes. It’s probably similar to the gut check I do before I leave my house sporting my hot pink leg warmers.

“Dwayne” has been known to rock some interesting shoes himself. I would love it if you took a picture of those red and blue trainers you used to wear to work. I’d post those on my blog and let people decide if you have the right to judge. ;o)

What does David think about all of these comments about his clothes?

We were not laughing at the shoes… just Dwayne’s comment. It definitely takes some guts to wear something a little different… but that is how trends are started… and followed!

Don’t worry, I’m still laughing (or cringing, rather) at the shoes. Poor David. All that work with little reward. Who’s next?

I see you didn’t take me up on my dare to send a pic of your funky shoes.

I’ve got some new ones, too, that are pretty rad. I’ll send you a photo, and let the crowd give me hell for them.

So these are the shoes that “Dwayne” loves to rock:

    Dwayne rocks.

Jeez, I just saw this mess. To each his own Dwayne; the shoes are fine- but I understand they wouldn’t work for you. I do have to agree with Brandy though- I could have used some darker jeans.

I’m sorry, but jeans and a jacket is a sin. Jeans with a fuller bottom would make his legs longer. These jeans are like pipes. The shirt hanging out makes the body look longer and the legs short. The jacket is actually quite nicely fitted, but how much better would this look be if there were matching suit trousers? A lot is the answer.
