I got dirty this weekend

I love planting flowers in the spring. I’ve planted a small flower garden outside at least four of my apartments since college. There’s something soothing about getting your hands dirty, planting small flowers and watching them grow and bloom.
Below is a pic of the area I had to work with. As you can see, I had to clear a lot of pine straw and random debris from the area.
And here’s a quick recording of the work I did Sunday. I still have a long ways to go, but it’s a start.
OK. I guess I have a really long way to turn it into my own little sanctuary. Maybe my landlord should give me a break on the rent for beautifying the place. Hmmm. Now that’s an idea.
Ginny, it’s def. worth bringing up to yr landlord–whether you receive a reduction in yr rent or a subsidy for planting. Other friends in apts have received one or the other. You are, after all, beautifying the place and adding to its value/upkeep!
If ever you want more space to, um, get dirty, may I offer my unruly backyard? We’re out there every weekend, and there’s no shortage of opportunities to convene w/ nature!
The pine straw is something I am going to have to get use to once I love to the area. I am use to mulch, it’s all mulch in Indiana. Pine straw is nice, looks good, but kind of hurts to walk on in bare feet.

Yeah replace love with live in that last sentence… I need to slow down when I type.
I hate pine straw. Even if you have only a single pine in your yard, you’ll find that your yard gets coated in the stuff. It’s such a pain to rake up. It’s good to burn though (if you live in an area that allows burning and if we’re not in a drought).
Spiffy! Better than the one in Springfield.
