Time for a text messaging competition
5 Jun
Triangle-area teenagers will face off in an instant messaging competition from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh. The winner will compete for a “VIP Jonas Brothers concert experience.” The Jonas Brothers are a big deal among tweens and some teens. I know this because my 13-year-old sister literally has more than 40 posters of them plastered to her bedroom wall (which is pretty creepy, but I guess I probably had a similar amount of New Kids on the Block posters decorating my bedroom back in the day).
Check out the friendly text messaging competition my co-worker Wayne Sutton and I staged this afternoon. We both used our Blackberries, which neither of us are used to texting on, so we were at equal disadvantage. We need to know who won.

I definitely think spelling is more important than speed.
This is hilarious! The dramatic music really makes it. I feel like I’m watching “Deal or no Deal”. Since it is text messaging then I think I would go for speed over accuracy. However, if it were an email via BB then you have to take accuracy over speed. /me notes that was probably more analysis than necessary.
Wow. I’d have to give the victory to Wayne. Spelling isn’t really an issue in text messaging, unless you can’t read what the word is supposed to be.
Spel in txting? Psht. Sorry Ginny, Wayne FTW.
Three spelling mistakes more than washes out Wayne’s speed. Give it to Jenny.
The winner is Verizon
utilizing a simple penalty for spelling mistakes i think will provide a clear winner. this is what they do is downhill slalom skiing, so it’ not unprecendented…
wayne: 48 seconds + (3 errors x 2 seconds each)= 54 seconds
ginny: 54 seconds + (1 error x 2 seconds)= 56 seconds
sorry ginny, it goes to wayne…this time.
