A 700-pound crab is sitting on Crabtree Valley Mall
This article was posted on Jul 01 2008
His name is “Jake” and he took up residence on top of the the McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurant at Crabtree Valley Mall around 3:30 p.m. today. Jake the Crab is named after one of Bill McCormick’s original seafood restaurants, which had the name Jake in it.

This inflatable crab weighs in at 700 pounds and stands about 17-feet tall, according to a news release from the restaurant. For more on this huge crab, check out Sue Stock’s story in The News & Observer.

So is this a good promotional gimmick to let people know this restaurant is coming to town? Or is it a little too tacky?
Egad! It’s ultra super mega dope tacky, but by gum we all know the restaurant is there now. Aargh, it’s like an image I’d like to burn out of my head but it just won’t go away…
I vote for tacky as well, but am thankful to all that is holy they did not put a huge sign up saying “We Have Crabs”, or some such.
I love McCormick & Schmick’s, but I’m surprised about the tacky crab situation. They’re more upscale while the crab looks like it should be atop a fast food joint.
oh well, just bring on the McCormick and Schmicks!
wicked weird. I suppose it’ll grab people’s attention, but what does it say about a restaurant to use an inflatable? “High-class” does not come to mind.
TACKY. Reminds of the giant blow up gorillas at car dealerships. And we know those folks have no class. This crab is gonna scare my kids. One of them is afraid of the beach as it is.
as long as it gets attention it works. remember…there is no such thing as bad press…
Eating a crab requires a lot of lung and poop contact. The animal’s lungs and poop, that is.
Oh! I just pulled over and took some pictures of this! Was about to post. I still will.

It looks like a giant tick to me.
