Vegans not allowed

30 Mar

I spotted this sign at Aquarium Outfitters, an awesome pet shop in Wake Forest. It made me smile. If you’re ever looking for something random to do, take a drive out to Wake Forest to go to this pet shop. I stumbled upon it last year when I was in Wake Forest researching stories for MyNC.com. It has a huge snake and fish collection. No dogs or cats, but lots of birds and mice. It’s a fun find.

Also, I stopped by this cool new vintage shop in downtown Wake Forest that has only been open for a week. Of course, since I was in Sunday stroll mode, I didn’t jot down the name of it. But it’s not hard to find (there’s not much on the main drag in downtown Wake Forest). The prices were really good and there’s even a meeting space (complete with bright yellow and green retro chairs) that the couple is letting the public use for free. If anyone knows the name of the shop, please post it in the comments so I can update my blog.

Because vegans are hilarious and vegetarians hate our freedom.

@vanessa I certainly didn’t mean to imply that I was hating on vegans. I just said the sign made me smile, which it did because businesses rarely do anything unique.

@m.d. jackson It’s funny that you phrased your comment as such “vegetarians hate our freedom” because you can’t see it in the photo, but there’s actually an American flag flying from the top of this sign.

For the record I totally respect vegetarians and vegans despite the fact that I am an unapologetic meat eater. My boyfriend is a vegetarian (not that that gives me much cred … but just an interesting detail). In fact, I have even more respect for vegans than vegetarians who say they don’t eat meat for moral reasons b/c even cows & chickens can’t enjoy being huddled together on dairy farms to produce milk and/or eggs respectively. So vegans, to me, seem even more dedicated to the cause. But, whatever floats your boat.

@cindy Yep. That’s exactly the vintage shop I was referencing. Thanks so much for sharing the link. I’ll update my post in a bit to reflect it.

I want a sign like this for my house. And @m.d.jackson, you called it!

Wow. Seems a bad idea in this economy that any business would want to eliminate a portion of the population from shopping there. For all they know, there could be a vegan in town who would spend big bucks on aquarium supplies…but guess they won’t get that business all for a stupid joke at the expense of decent people with a slightly different lifestyle. If they tank in this recession, I surely wouldn’t shed a tear for them.

Hey I live right down the street from here. WF is a decidedly odd and slightly country place with suburbs mixed in.
