From Better Than Ezra to black light bug hunting, there are plenty of things to do this weekend
21 Aug
I remember taking a tour of the local college in high school and picking up a copy of the student newspaper. I spotted an ad for a Better Than Ezra concert and I remember thinking: “Wow, college is going to be so cool, I’ll get to see bands like Better Than Ezra.” I loved them so much back then. I remember cruising around the backroads of southern Illinois blasting “Desparately Wanting” and “Good.”
I had a chance to see Better Than Ezra for the first time about five years ago, when the band performed at Raleigh’s Downtown Live. I loved the show and I’m thrilled that the Downtown Live organizers added them again this year. So on Saturday night, you can bet I will be in Moore Square reliving my high school days to Better Than Ezra. Concert starts at 9 p.m.
Here are some other random events going on this weekend:
Turkey Bowling: Here’s your chance to push a frozen turkey down some ice and score a strike. You can try your hand at the unusual game from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Polar Ice House, located in both Garner and Wake Forest.
Get Your Craft On: The 33rd annual Lazy Daze Arts & Crafts Festival runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in downtown Cary.
Free Durham Fun: The second annual Durham Be Easy festival will feature live music, food and family-friendly activities to encourage community unity (oooh, that rhymes). The event is from 6 to 10 p.m. TONIGHT in CCB Plaza in downtown Durham. If it rains, the city-sponsored event moves to the Armory.
Black Light Insect Hunt: How often do you get to inspect bugs under a black light? The North Carolina Museum of Life and Science is hosting this special event from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.
As always, feel free to share your weekend plans/events in the comments section. Have fun!

I’m headed to the Second Chance Prom with Salt N Pepa! I’m only going for them and am going to sing all the words to “Shoop” “None of your Business,” and “Push It” Yay, 1993!
OMG I so remember you talking about them! I hope you have a good time!
Oh man! You just brought back memories. I remember my college boyfriend playing his guitar singing Porcelain. Thanks for the smile.
So random, so awesome…
