Introducing GinnySkal.com (don’t worry, I’m still Ginny from the Blog)

22 Sep

My world started to change about two weeks ago. That’s when I decided to leave my post at NBC17 and launch a new chapter in my career (and a new website). So I’m leaving 30THREADS.com and relaunching Ginny from the Blog. Both of those sites were hosted by NBC17, a TV station that I’m leaving with a lot of love. I’m still going to blog, but you’ll find it all right here instead.

So what’s next? I’m thrilled to announce that I will soon be the social media specialist for Cree. Cree is the Durham-based LED lighting company that Triangle residents may best know for the radiant shimmer wall adorning the side of Raleigh’s new Convention Center or the Water Cube at the Beijing Olympics.

Cree Shimmer Wall

But Cree’s LEDs are in everything from LED televisions to flashlights to recessed ‘can’ lights. (The pic of the shimmer wall is by John Morris of Goodnight, Raleigh fame.)

Thursday is my last day at NBC17, and you can bet it’s going to be an emotional one. The newsroom was my second home, and many of my coworkers felt like family. My bosses were amazingly supportive of our social media efforts, and of 30THREADS. Details are still being worked out about who will take over the site. In the meantime, some web producers will step in to keep content fresh.

And don’t worry, my new job shouldn’t slow down my blogging here, after all, I’m still Ginny from the Blog.

You will do great at Cree, I’m sure. Here’s a LED story for you: chatting with Thomas Sayre recently, he told me 2 fascinating things: The shimmer wall is already wired and prepped for reception of light show input from the future amphitheatre across the street; he designed 9 different programs for the wall but the city has always left it on setting # 1. best of luck, come see!
