PowerPoint Karaoke tests your creativity
29 Sep
Among the things that I am horrible at, but absolutely love to do is karaoke. I can not sing (as my friends, family and poor boyfriend can easily attest to), but there’s nothing better than belting out a tune, with no shame, all with the benefit of the lyrics on the screen in front of you.
So when multimedia journalist Angela Connor asked me if I would be a judge at PowerPoint Karaoke, I quickly agreed. Turns out the event (scheduled this Thursday, Oct. 1) has little to do with singing, but may possibly be more amusing.
Here’s the deal: PowerPoint Karaoke challenges participants to give a 3-minute presentation on 10-15 slides that they’ve never seen before. The slides will rotate without regard for the participants, and they’ll have to give it their best creative shot to come up with something coherent.
I’ve been told we’ll be judging on execution, endurance, creativity, delivery and more. There are no more slots left for participants, but you can still sign up to watch. The free event starts with an hour of social networking at 6 p.m. Thursday Oct. 1 at the Hilton Raleigh-Durham Airport. The event runs from 7 to 9 p.m. Reserve your spot here.

I participated in Powerpoint Karaoke at Ohio LinuxFest several years ago and organized a round for the TriLUG Holiday party the same year. It is a lot of fun!
Hey Ginny: Thanks for blogging this! I am so excited about having you as judge. I am sure you’ll be tough.
I would encourage everyone who is able to come out and have a great time with us.
I would love to be a participant in this. It sounds like a lot of fun! As A matter of fact I don’t know which would be more fun, Participating or judging! Have fun Gin.
Nervously excited to be participating in this…
Don’t be nervous Jamie. Just bring your A game.
I look forward to meeting you. See you tomorrow.

This sounds like a blast! Will try to make it if everyone around here is healthy.
By the end of the night, I’ll likely be wishing it WAS regular karaoke – at least I have a few standards I can pull out there…. Looking forward to making a fool of myself in front of a crowd, and to finally meeting you, Ginny.
