When snow threatens North Carolina residents buy milk and bread

Between 2 to 7 inches of snow is forecasted to fall on the Triangle by noon Saturday. Here’s what a Raleigh Harris Teeter looked like at 9:30 p.m. Thursday night.
I can see why people are inclined to buy bread when bad weather is on the horizon (for peanut butter sandwiches, right?). I admit I bought a loaf , but I was all out so I needed some regardless of the weather. Still, it’s funny to see the bread racks cleared because of the threat of snow.
There were very few carts too.
When I went to the store, there was the possibility of up to 11 inches of snow. (I, too, was in need of groceries regardless.) But I came home and saw the forecast reduced to 3-5 inches and would have bought less. It’s really the possibility of ice and the power going out that is a problem in this area. I might take a chance in the snow, but ice – forgetaboutit!
The toilet paper shelf was even more bare.
@Nathania I second that! Ice is a natural disaster. In 1996, we had so much sleet and freezing rain, it packed into 4″ of solid ice. Schools were out over a week. Plows just couldn’t get under it to break it up. I remember lots of kids ice skating from house to house. There was also a more recent snow event that knocked out power for several days in the triangle. That sucked.
Haha, that’s funny. The eggs and milk usually go too– My theory was always that people like French toast in the snow.
Oh snap, I forgot the bread!
Interesting. What about water? I currently live in a hurricane state and that’s what we stock up on. Also, anything that’s non-perishable and can be consumed without cooking in case the power goes out. I’m from MN and we never really had blizzards severe enough that we had to stock up on anything.
